Every good athlete trains outside of competition. He builds strength with drills, reps, and resistance. The same is true for the spiritual life.

Even secular skills—organization, self-control, communication, leadership—can prepare your soul for higher things. Don’t waste them. Don’t compartmentalize them. Train your mind and habits to serve God.

Everything you do can be spiritual training.

Suggestions for the Day

  • Consider one secular skill you’ve developed—how might it train you in virtue?

  • Don’t waste good structure. Use your schedule, planner, or routine to make room for prayer.

  • Take a 24-hour break from distractions that numb your focus (social media, noise, etc.).
